The Little Manatee at SR 579 station is located several miles upstream of USGS gage 02300500 (Little Manatee River near Wimauma) on US 301. It measures flows in the northern main branch while the USGS gage measures aggregated flows of the northern and southern tributaries.  The area is prone to frequent flooding and commonly flows out of banks.
